WHYTE SHADOWS
01 DEC 2003

In May 2003 - Spline Motion Studios began pre-production on three music videos for the nationally known Hmong pop group Whyte Shadows. After recently releasing their new album "Finding Yourself" the band chose SMS to envision, direct and produce their first ever set of videos. June 2003 saw Spline Motion Studios begin initial storyboarding and early costume design along with testing of their new Panasonic DVX. Next came construction of a camera dolly made of lighter materials that allowed for quick relocation of the track when changing scenes. Actors were cast and final costume adjustments were made. The Spline Motion 3D team silently began work on backdrops and detailed models to be composited into the live action scenes. The filming began in mid-August and continued until mid-September with 45 hours of footage stacked up waiting to be captured. Downtown streets were blocked off, parking garages were taken over and huge industrial warehouses were converted into custom film sets. A monster 16 foot tall, 400 square-foot green screen was designed and raised by Ruptured Duck Ent. and an overhead sprinkler system was implented for an outside storm scene. Post production was an intense 2 months of work that resulted in beautiful SFX shots. The DVD was sent to print on schedule and underbudget. Total footage included 3 music videos:"You Are the One", "Oh Baby" , and "I Should've", Profiles of all 6 band members, Behind the Scenes that showed set construction, on location filming, and SFX work, Time Lapse of their August 2003 concert and the music videos Casting Call. The DVD layout including Whyte Shadows digital/3D intro, menu design, navigation, and transcoding was all completed in-house. The DVD was sold at the band's farewell concert and sold extremely well at the Hmong New Year celebration in Fresno, CA.
