BREATH OF FRESH AIR FOR DOWNTOWN FRESNO
03 MAY 2006

The writer of these Spline Motion posts is one the biggest critics of downtown Fresno's lack of inspiring architecture. If it were not for architect Arthur Dyson and his firm DKSJ, Spline Motion might be in a perpetual state of depression, having to look out their downtown office window across acres of dreary parking lots and rundown, concrete hulls of deserted buildings. Every now and then, blowing in from the North West, is a clean and cool breeze. This May, Spline Motion had the privilege of visualizing the first design of the new Downtown Library for Fresno County. Or at least the parking garage. But not just any parking garage. This structure has a Charter School attached to it and makes use of the beautiful copper roofing material that can be seen on the University High School render for CSU Fresno. In the top left of the image, the library building footprint can be seen.
SMS tried a different technique on the background, using blocks of nondescript buildings in grey-tone to represent the surrounding area. This forces the focus directly to the colored design in the center of the render. Want to see what the library looks like? So do we. The design is being kept under super-secret wraps for now but we will keep you up to date.
